Illegal Medication Sales in Western Cape Prompt Warning from Police

Nyanga:Western Cape The South African Police Service (SAPS) is urging the public to purchase medication exclusively from registered providers following the discovery of illegal medication sales in Nyanga.

According to South African Government News Agency, the warning comes after a 38-year-old man was arrested for selling medication illegally at Nyanga Junction Transportation Hub. During a foot patrol by Operation Prosper, officers found the man in possession of boxes of medication, some of which were past their expiration date, posing significant health risks.

The police emphasized that purchasing medication from street vendors could be hazardous, as the drugs might be expired and their origin unverified. The suspect, unable to disclose the source of the medication, faces charges under the Medicines Act and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court.

The SAPS stressed the importance of obtaining medication from licensed pharmacies and authorized suppliers to ensure public safety.
