Muke Albert Kachelgwa (28) appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on 9 November 2021 for possession of suspected stolen property, bribery and contravening the Immigration Act and was remanded in custody until 17 November 2021 for further investigation.

 

On 7 November 2021 at 15:00, Durban Central police were conducting patrol duties in the Durban CBD when they received information of a man dealing in stolen cellphones in Queen Street and proceeded to the said place. The police spotted the man and searched him. He was found in possession of an iPad and various cellphones.

 

He failed to provide proof of ownership when he was requested and attempted to bribe the police officials. It was discovered that he didn’t have the necessary documents to be in this country and was charged for contravening the Immigration Act, being in possession of suspected stolen property and bribery. He was detained at the Durban Central police station.
