On 13 October 2021, the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court sentenced Desmond Jones (47) to pay a fine of R3000-00 or three months imprisonment for housebreaking and theft which happened around Pietermaritzburg in 2019.
In September 2019 Jones allegedly stole PlayStation 4 controllers with several games and two Sony speakers after he was the last person to enter the child’s room to fix something.
In October of the same year, the complainant left his house and everything was in order. When he returned from work he noticed that his webber braai valued R10 000.00 was stolen. In the same month another complainant alleged that he left his premises for a holiday, when he came back he noticed that his CCTV camera was missing.
Jones was later arrested and charged for all three incidents. He appeared in court several times for the second incident until he was sentenced to 730 days of which was suspended for five years. He was further sentenced to 24 days for the third incident of which was also suspended for 5 years.
In November 2019 he repeated the same offence where a ladder and other tools were stolen in one of the residence and a warrant of arrest was issued. As a result he was arrested by Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation on 5 May 2021.
