Hopetown SAPS recovers ammunition

In an effort to enforce legislation on the proliferation of firearms and ammunition, the Station Commander of Hopetown SAPS, Lt Col Riaan Jooste and Sergeants Eland and Olivier reacted on information provided by an informer about ammunition and explosives.

On 01 December 2021 at approximately 15:20, Lt Col Jooste and his members operationalised the information which led them to a plot near Orania. After searching the identified premises, Hopetown SAPS assisted by members of the De Aar Explosives unit discovered a trip flair, 41 rounds of shotgun ammunition, 61 blank rounds and 6 rounds of .22 ammunition.

A 48-year-old male was arrested and charged with illegal possession of ammunition and unauthorised explosives and will soon appear in the Hopetown Magistrates’ court.

The police will continue unabatedly to tighten the grip on crime during the festive season. The police are urging the public to continue to provide information regarding criminal activities, as they are the eyes and ears of the police in the fight against crime. Information can be reported via the MYSAPS App and will be treated confidentially.
