The City of Cape Town’s libraries are once again pulling out all the stops to ensure that the coming school holidays will be a time of fun and activity. The amount of people will be limited to ensure safety and for many activities, bookings are required.
‘The City of Cape Town’s libraries are known for their fun, educational and interactive holiday programmes. The national lockdown has meant facilities could not offer many, in some cases any, activities. This holiday, our much loved programmes are back with the health and safety of our young patrons taking precedence,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.
Some of the library activities include sensory play for very young children, a holiday craft programme, which includes a DIY kit, movies, informative talks, storytelling and games sessions.
‘The number of children will be limited, depending on the activity and the space at the particular library. I want to encourage parents to visit the library and sign their young ones up for an activity. Not everyone can be accommodated, so be considerate and don’t book for all the activities. That way more children can enjoy the holidays,’ added Councillor Van der Ross.
Parents and caregivers are reminded that hygiene protocols remain in place. Please wear your mask and continue to sanitise your hands often.
‘Our holiday programmes, as well as the play and activities at home, do more than just keep children busy. It allows them to use their creativity while at the same time developing their imagination and dexterity, and they learn and interact with the world around them. If they’re not able to take part in an activity, visit the library to check out a new book or movie and go on an adventure,’ added Councillor Van der Ross.
