On Monday, 9 September 2024, Hoedspruit SAPS, led by Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel V.E Mthombeni conducted a community outreach programme at Sidawa Community Hall, in collaboration with Batlokwa Stimulation Centre, parents, and stakeholders, including Maruleng Municipality represented by Councillor Mrs E Masete.
The event, organized by the station’s Men for Change and Women’s Network, aimed to promote child safety and prevent child abuse. Lt- Col Mthombeni emphasized the importance of parental care and community involvement in safeguarding children, especially those with disabilities. She appealed to the community to work together with the police, social workers, and traditional leadership to combat child abuse and reminded attendees of children’s rights.
The community was alerted to the dangers of sexual offenses, and parents were urged to report any incidents rather than covering up for perpetrators, which can have long-term negative consequences for victims.
The police station donated gifts to t
he centre, including groceries, mattresses, sanitary towels, and other essentials.
In attendance were also Vispol Policing Commander Captain MP Mashele, Support Commander Captain MD Mokgolo.
