BHOLOTHWA – On 27 October 2021, the Lady Frere Magistrate’s Court sentenced Nkululeko Michael Sithonga (49) to 20 years direct imprisonment for the murder of his wife on 06 March 2020.
On the mentioned date, police found the body of Viwe Bhele (40) at the house in Mkhonjana Village a/a in Bholothwa. She sustained a gunshot wound and was covered with a blanket. The husband, who fled the scene at the time, handed himself over to the police the following day.
The accused was denied bail and remained in custody until his sentencing.
The Acting Chris Hani District Commissioner, Brigadier Mabel Magqashela welcomed the sentencing and reiterated that crimes against women and children will not be tolerated. ‘We need to unite as a society to tackle this scourge. It is time that we no longer turn a blind eye to the cries for help from the most vulnerable in our midst,’ added Brig Magqashela.
