Hawks arrest two more suspects in relation to Mogalakwena Municipality tender corruption

Two more suspects and two other companies have been arrested in relation to Mogalakwena alleged tender corruption at Mogalakwena Municipality this afternoon. The arrests are a follow up to a takedown operation that was conducted by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation assisted by Limpopo Highway Patrol and Naboomspruit Crime Prevention members in which 13 suspects and 11 companies were arrested. This brings the total number of arrested suspects to 15.

 

It is alleged that the officials received gratification from service providers and that other companies were paid money for services not rendered.

 

The Municipality has suffered a loss of over R15 million due to these illegal activities.

 

During the operation, a BMW 1 series belonging to the girlfriend of one of the suspects was seized as an affected gift.

 

All the suspects are expected to make their first appearance in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on 1 September 2021.
