Gunmen Kill Four At Funeral In Central Nigeria: Police

LAGOS – Four persons were killed when a group of gunmen attacked mourners, who were assembled at a funeral, in central Nigeria’s Benue state, the police said.

 

Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the police in Benue, said in a statement, three gunmen invaded, on Saturday, the Imande Abur village of the Logo local government area of the state, shooting indiscriminately at the mourners at a burial there.

 

“Five people sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, four of them lost their lives while receiving treatment,” said Anene.

 

She said, police teams within the area swiftly moved to the area, but the suspects took to their heels on seeing the police.

 

The motive of the attack was not immediately known, but police detectives have launched an investigation into the attack, the police spokesperson said.

 

There have been a series of gun attacks in Nigeria in recent months, leading to deaths and kidnappings, in the northern part of the country.

Son Of Former Libyan Ruler Gaddafi Runs For President

 

TRIPOLI – Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late ruler of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi, yesterday officially submitted candidacy documents, for the upcoming presidential election, said the High National Elections Commission (HNEC).

 

“Today (yesterday), Sunday, Nov 14, candidate Saif al-Islam Muammar Gaddafi, submitted his candidacy for the presidency of the Libyan state,” the commission said in a statement.

 

“Candidate Saif al-Islam Gaddafi also received his electoral card from the electoral centre, in which he is registered,” said the statement, adding that, the centre number is 21021, in south Libya’s Sebha city.

 

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was released from prison in 2017, after being detained in the western city of Zintan, since the fall of his father’s government, in 2011.

 

Libya is expecting to hold general elections on Dec 24 this year, as part of a roadmap adopted by the UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).
