Grassy Park sidewalk project back on track

The contractor has commenced with the construction of the sidewalks along 5th Avenue, at the corner of Buck Road, in Grassy Park.

The City of Cape Town can confirm that the widening of sections along 5th Avenue is now within the necessary specifications and work is continuing in accordance with the revised program.

The work is expected to take 15 months to complete.

‘I am glad that the issue has been resolved and that the project is going ahead again. It is important that we ensure the service that we deliver is of an acceptable standard and not rushed. I thank the residents for being patient with us during the construction period. Our main objective is to improve the maintenance of residential sidewalks while also making a long-term investment that benefits residents and pedestrians,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The work will take place along a number of roads, including the following:

• Lake Road reserve between 7th and 8th Avenues

• Rooikrans Avenue reserve between Italian Road and Perth Road

• Zeekoe Road reserve between 5th Avenue and Fisherman’s Walk

• 2nd Avenue reserve between Lake Road and Old Strandfontein Road

• 3rd Avenue reserve between Lake Road and Old Strandfontein Road

• 4th Avenue reserve between Lake Road and Old Strandfontein Road

• Klip Road reserve between St. Louis Way and Buck Road and/or Stanley Road

• 5th Avenue reserve between Atkins Road and Kudu Avenue

• Victoria Road reserve between Klip Road and 8th Avenue

• Victoria Road reserve between 8th Avenue and Rooikrans Avenue.

Currently, the contractor is working on the following streets:

• Klip Road

• 2nd Avenue

• 3rd Avenue

• 5th Avenue
