Durban: In support of the country’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign, government will on Friday lead the National Men’s Day Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) march in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The march is an annual event that aims to increase awareness about the impact of GBVF on society as well as to educate citizens about gender equity.
According to South African Government News Agency, the march aligns with this year’s objectives for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. This initiative calls for raising awareness about GBVF and its harmful impacts. This year marks the 26th anniversary of the campaign, which runs under the theme: ’30 Years of Advancing Collective Action to End Violence Against Women and Children’. This theme underscores the necessity for a whole-of-society approach to combating GBVF and highlights the importance of multi-sectoral accountability.
The campaign, which commenced on 25 November, will c
onclude on 10 December 2024. Tomorrow’s march will begin at King Dinuzulu Park, proceed along Dr Pixley KaSeme Street, and end at The Station in Stamford Hill. The event will be officiated by Deputy President Paul Mashatile and His Majesty, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
