Media briefing on progress in advancing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP)
The Head of the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team, Mr Daniel Mminele, and the United Kingdom’s COP26 Envoy and Chair of the International Partners Group, Mr John Murton, will host a joint media briefing to provide an update on the work underway to finalise the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The JETP was established through a Political Declaration issued at COP26 in November 2021. Through this declaration, the United Kingdom together with the European Union, France, Germany, and the United States (the International Partners Group, or IPG) undertook to mobilise an initial amount of $8.5 billion over the next 3-5 years to support the achievement of South Africa’s ambitious Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
The media briefing takes place in the context of a six-month update to leaders by the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team and the IPG, which was released following the visit by the COP President, Alok Sharma, to South Africa. A copy of this update can be found here.
