Government and stakeholders take next leg of nationwide anti-bullying intervention to the North West Province
Government Departments have joined forces and collaborated in an effort to tackle the continuing challenge of violence in schools. The Departments which include Basic Education, Social Development, Communication and Digital Technologies, Home Affairs, Justice and Constitutional Development as well as the South African Police will on Friday 19 August 2022 host the fourth instalment of the Anti-Bullying Roadshow at the Vaal Reefs Technical High School in Orkney, in the North West province.
At its heart, this multi-sectoral, inter-departmental intervention aims to raise awareness on the continuing and equally distressing impact of bullying and violence that continue to plague the nation and all its communities at large.
August has seen a variety of precursor events including online safety training offered by the Film and Publication board, a Learner Pregnancy Dialogue as well as a workshop with parents on social ills affecting the schooling community championed by the DBE. At the centre of these events is a drive to ensure that not only schools but the communities around them take up the challenge to rid our schools of inappropriate, violent and harmful behaviours and practices.
Having launched the intervention with the initial Roadshow in May 2021, the road show will head to the platinum province with a message that bullying and violence have no place in our society.
This compact continues to showcase the appreciation that indeed ‘’Education is a societal issue’’; and that government together with partners will continue their collective efforts to ensure that indeed ‘’Bullying and violence have no place in our schools’’.
