German National Falls Victim to Robbery and Fraud in Lüderitz

KEETMANSHOOP – A German citizen was defrauded of N.dollars 44,000 in a robbery at a Lüderitz ATM, sparking an ongoing investigation by the Namibian Police Force.

According to NAMPA, the NamPol crime investigations coordinator for the ||Kharas region, the incident was reported to have taken place on Thursday at approximately 17:55. The complainant, a 56-year-old man, was using a Nedbank ATM when an unidentified individual approached, claiming to be a bank employee and offering assistance. Following the encounter, the victim discovered his ATM card was missing and received alerts of unauthorized withdrawals amounting to 2,230.51 Euro (approximately N.dollars 44,375.40) from his account. Notably, one of these transactions was carried out in Rundu, a town significantly distant from Lüderitz.

The suspect, as described by the complainant, is of a darker complexion, medium height, with a moustache, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt adorned with a silver necklace and black trousers.

As of now, no funds have been recovered, and NamPol’s efforts to investigate the matter further are underway.
