MALAMULELE – Today Malamulele SAPS Communication Officer, Sergeant Busisiwe Khuzwayo and Sergeant Nkensani Mavasa, Social Crime Prevention Coordinator and Youth Against Crime members embarked on a gender-based violence (GBV) awareness campaign at Malamulele shopping complex in support of the 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children campaign.
Sergeant Khuzwayo encouraged everyone to break the silence against women and children abuse. She further cautioned about the ritual killings, witchcraft violence, rape and domestic violence. “It might be happening at your neighbour, break the silence by calling the law enforcement to assist the victims, together we can squeeze out crime in our neighbourhood by blowing the whistle against perpetrators” she said.
Additionally, Sergeant Mavasa highlighted that if community members can unite and work together, crime will decline. She also advocated the establishment of Community Policing Forums (CPF’s), Neighbourhood Watch and Street Patrols as a very effective force multiplier in the fight against crime.
The community was further sensitized to be more vigilant during the festive period while at home and on the public roads.
Youth Against Crime distributed pamphlets with educational information about gender-based violence, breaking the silence against crime and children’s rights.
