Gauteng police arrest more than nine hundred suspects over the weekend

Suspects arrested during Operation O Kae Molao On Friday, 17 September 2021 in Ga-Rankuwa and Akasia, Tshwane, are among nine hundred (900) suspects arrested by the police in Gauteng over the weekend.

 

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, led the multi-disciplinary Operation O Kae Molao in Tshwane District. The operation resulted in the arrest of two hundred and forty-two (242) people and seizure of drugs, liquor, unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a vehicle as the owner was charged for non-compliance. A number of traffic infringement fines were also issued which amounted to R94 400-00. The disruptive activities of the night included simultaneous multi-disciplinary roadblocks conducted at Molefe Makinta Road in Zone 15 and Doreen Road in Akasia, it also included vehicle check points as well as stop and searches.

 

Lieutenant General Mawela commended all the stakeholders and the police officers for their continued commitment in supporting Operation O Kae Molao. “Senior Managers in the SAPS, Metro Police Chiefs, Directors in various government departments, stakeholders – your hard work in the past two days of Operation O Kae Molao have not gone unnoticed, I have no doubt that your efforts will have a positive and direct impact on the reduction of the rate of contact crime in our Province and that is encouraging and commendable,” said Lieutenant General Mawela.

 

Meanwhile, police in Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, West Rand and Sedibeng Districts, together with other law enforcement agencies, conducted their operations since Friday, 17 September 2021until the early hours of Sunday morning, 19 September 2021 and arrested over six hundred and seventy (670) suspects. These suspects were nabbed for crimes that include driving the vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol, selling liquor without license, malicious damage to property, assault, dealing and possession of drugs, possession of stolen property and theft.

 

All the suspects that have been arrested will be appearing in the various Magistrates’ Courts soon, facing various charges.
