Gauteng Legislature hosts youth unemployment workshop, 27 to 28 Jan

Gauteng OCPOL leads conversation to address Gauteng youth unemployment

The Provincial Legislature’s Oversight Committee on the Premier’s Office & the Legislature (OCOPL) will kick off the new year to discussions about Gauteng youth unemployment and opportunities presented by the Provincial Government.

Taking place over a two-day session on 27-28 January 2022, the discussion will see the Gauteng youth, economic experts, the entrepreneurial sector, government departments, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), and various other important stakeholders in all matters pertaining to youth opportunities and the country’s economic development explore potential solutions.

It is necessitated by the country’s staggering youth unemployment statistics, their economic unproductivity and rising poverty made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic and related lockdown restrictions; a plight that has exacerbated poor mental wellness, substance abuse and crime.

Top of the agenda will be the (slow) implementation of the Tshepo 1-million drive – the Gauteng Government’s short-term strategy to address youth unemployment.
