The City continues its long-standing relationship with the Sunshine Ladies Tour, South Africa’s leading women’s professional golf tournament, by supporting the 2023 Cape Town Ladies Open and the Investec SA Women’s Open.
As a signature event in the Mother City, Cape Town Ladies Open has been on the City of Cape Town’s event calendar since 2015. This prestigious professional tournament sees over 80 international and local golfers showcase their best performances on the greens.
It’s game on this season as the Sunshine Ladies Tour celebrates its 10th anniversary with a refreshed logo and a strong hashtag, #WeGotGame emphasising the growth of its circuit and positioning itself as a pivotal platform for golfers to launch their careers.
Atlantic Beach Links in Melkbosstrand will host its first Cape Town Ladies Open this week from 15-17 February and the season will draw to a close at Steenberg Golf Club with the Investec SA Women’s Open in March.
‘This year, sport is at the forefront of attracting prestigious events to the Mother City. We are thrilled to welcome the Sunshine Ladies Tour back to Cape Town as we celebrate a decade of developing the women’s game. Our support of these golf tournaments goes back many years and also creates opportunities for the country’s next generation golfers to display their talents and abilities. I’m extremely proud that The City of Cape Town can establish itself as a destination of choice for numerous sporting events, in particular women’s sports. This year is momentous, as our Events Department is dedicating 2023 as the year of women by doing more to support women-driven events. It is encouraging to see the growing international participation over the years and we’re looking forward to continuing our efforts to enable women’s sports.’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.
The Sunshine Ladies Tour is the perfect platform for up and coming amateur and professional golfers to gain international experience. The season will close with the Investec Women’s Open taking place at Steenberg Golf Club from 08 – 11 March 2023. As part of the CSI programme, on the last day of the Women’s Open, disabled young golfers will be invited to watch and partake in putting and chipping lessons with the professional golfers.
