The Kapstadt CUP, The Mother City’s premier grassroots football festival, crowned 10 junior champions across 10 age groups yesterday after five days of stiff competition.
More than 1 700 youth football players took part in the tournament which started on 28 September 2022.
They represented 32 clubs from Cape Town, the Western Cape Town, KZN, Gauteng and Namibia.
For the first time in its 11-year history, the tournament included an under-20 competition and used multiple venues including the Athlone Stadium, Greenpoint Park, Greenpoint Shared Fields, Malta Park and Hartleyvale in Observatory.
‘The talent on display at the Kapstadt CUP over the last five days is a testament that Cape Town and the country has an abundance of undiscovered stars who need appropriate platforms to showcase their gifts and be seen by scouts. The City of Cape Town would like to congratulate FC Kapstadt for putting on a memorable tournament for these young people. We are committed to ensuring we continue supporting initiatives that contribute to the development of our youth,’ said the Chairperson of the City’s Portfolio Committee on Safety and Security, Councillor Mzwakhe Nqavashe.

The Kapstadt CUP 2022 delivered yet another unique, exciting and memorable football experience for the youth of South Africa and beyond. The 11th edition of the competition was unpredictable and fascinating. The Kapstadt CUP has again provided a crucial platform to develop and inspire the youth of the country. We will continue to push the standards of South African football through our club programmes and this event to provide an opportunity for future leaders.”
The champions for the different age groups are as follows:
Under-7 – Hellenic FC
Under-8 – FC Kapstadt
Under-9 – FC Kapstadt
Under-10 – Hellenic FC
Under-11- Hout Bay United FC
Under-12 – Mamelodi Sundowns
Under-13 – University of Pretoria
Under-14 – Cape Town Spurs
Under-16 – Mamelodi Sundowns
Under-20 – Stellenbosch FC
