Fugitive murderer re-arrested for assassination of a police officer

MPUMALANGA- A 36-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Kanyamazane Magistrate’s Court today for the alleged murder of a police officer, the late Sgt Marcia Mazibuko who was stationed at Ngodwana SAPS and her sister Pretty Mazibuko who were shot and killed by the suspect during the night of 15 June 2022 at Kanyamazane.

It is alleged that on 15 June 2022, the suspect had an argument with his girlfriend in the garage of their aunt’s house. It is further reported that she ran and jumped inside a blue BMW 1 series which was parked outside the yard. The suspect followed her and shot her several times through the windscreen. He then followed the police officer (Marcia Mazibuko) and shot her several times inside the house and the suspect fled the crime scene.

The ambulance was called and transported the two sisters to hospital where both were declared deceased on arrival. The suspect is known to the family. The suspect was sought for the past month until last week Thursday, 11 August 2022 when he was arrested at his hiding place in Springs for another murder of a woman whom he allegedly killed on 06 June 2022 at Sundra. The suspect was re-arrested on Monday, 15 August 2022 at Delmas Magistrate’s Court while appearing on the Sundra murder.

The suspect was taken to Nelspruit where he was charged with the murder of Sgt Marcia Mazibuko and her sister Pretty Mazibuko. The suspect remains in custody pending his court appearance.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Zodwa Mokoena welcomed the arrest of this fugitive murderer and appreciated the collaboration of the team which was assisted by the loyal citizens in the fight against the scourge of crime by bringing the perpetrators to book.
