Friends caught in the act stripping hijacked vehicle

A 43-year-old taxi driver alleged that on 22 October 2021, at 12:40, while he was seated in his taxi on Lancers road in Berea, three armed balaclava-clad men accosted him. They instructed him to move from the driver’s seat to the back and was forced to lie down. They drove away with him and he was allegedly dropped off in the Wyebank area.

The matter was reported to KwaDabeka police and a case of carjacking was opened for investigation. On Sunday, 24 October 2021, at 14:00, the Provincial Vehicle Task Team followed up on the information about three men who were seen in the bush in possession of a white Toyota Quantum, which fitted the description of the vehicle hijacked in Berea.

They proceeded to Wushwini Road, Kwangcolosi and apprehended the three suspects who were caught in the act of stripping the Toyota Quantum. They were arrested on the scene and detained at the Hillcrest police station. The police also seized a white Ford bakkie with vehicle parts and registration plates. The vehicle was taken to the pound for further investigation.

The suspects aged between 19 and 32 will be profiled to establish any linkages to other crimes committed in the province. They will appear in court soon for possession of suspected stolen property and carjacking.
