Free State Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs DESTEA reviving eco-tourism in Free State

The Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) is embarking on the Free State Camp-out Experience campaign in an effort to  promote its resorts and reserves by hosting Eco-tourism events, programmes and excursions at DESTEA owned attractions.

This exercise answers the call to revive the tourism sector in the province, reignite tourism demand and promote DESTEA’s resorts and reserves.

As stated in 2021/2022 Budget Vote, these facilities will be the centre of Eco-tourism revitalization by positioning the Free State as an inland destination of choice through conducting various activities for people to enjoy whilst making revenue on the state owned resources.

DESTEA’s resorts and reserves offer unforgettable experiences at low cost, catering for all demographics, such as family and individual outings and year-end functions.

The resorts and reserves offer amenities such as chalets, braai areas, picnic areas, swimming pools, camping sites and activities such as game drives, bird watching and fishing.

Campers at the Free State Camp-out Experience partake in activities such as picnicking, hiking, game drives, fishing and team building activities.

The remaining upcoming events for the year are planned as follows:

Gariep Nature Reserve and Resort: 10th – 12th December 2021
Sterkfontein Nature Reserve and Resort: 17th – 19th December 2021
