NORTHERN CAPE - The SAPS Management in the Northern Cape welcomes the 4 life sentences that were handed down to Lebogang Nyoka (32) in the Taung Regional Court on 30 August 2022.
On 14 September 2014 two females, aged 64 and 12 were sleeping when the suspect broke into their house, raped them and fled with a laptop from the premises.
The following evening Nyoka broke into another house in Pampierstad, raped a 40-year-old female and fled with a television set.
The accused broke into the third house on 07 October 2014 and was arrested.
Police noticed the similarities in the modus operandi of the cases and linked Nyoka with DNA.
Lebogang Nyoka was found guilty on the rapes and house breaking and theft cases and received 4 life sentences. The court added another 13 year imprisonment which will run concurrently with the life sentences.
The Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Brig Nicky Mills commended the investigating officer, D/Sgt Gloria Sehako from the Jan Kempdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for meticulously investigating these cases and ensuring that no impunity is granted to perpetrators of such heinous crimes. The SAPS will continue unabatedly and stay focused on crimes against women and children as this is one of our priorities, especially as we are celebrating women's month. End.
