Four firearms seized following shoot-out

DURBAN – Police officers from the Provincial Trio Task Team followed up information in the early hours of yesterday at KwaNdengezi regarding a double murder that occurred in Chatsworth on 2 February 2022. When the police arrived at the house on Ukhozi Crescent at Pitoli, they were met by heavily armed men who opened fire at them.

During the exchange of gunfire, two suspects were fatally wounded. A third suspect managed to flee the scene and dropped his firearm at the crime scene. Police recovered two AK47 rifles, two pistols, 220 various rounds of ammunition, a police radio and blue light. The vehicle that was used by the suspects was also seized for further investigation. It was established that the vehicle that was used by the suspects was hijacked in Pietermaritzburg. The deceased suspects were identified as Fuzuyise Myeza (42) and Thabiso Myeza (28). Charges of attempted murder and inquest are being investigated by KwaNdengezi SAPS.

It is alleged that on 2 February 2022 at 07:45, armed men entered a business situated on Demat Road in Chatsworth. The suspects opened fire fatally wounding a 50-year-old security guard and the 30-year-old manager. Two other people were injured and were conveyed to hospital for medical care. Charges of murder were opened at Chatsworth SAPS.
