A seven-year-old girl by name Cynthia was bitten and killed by four dogs under the care of her uncle in Mojuka a locality in Mbanga Moungo Division of the Littoral region on July 28, 2024.
She went to spend some time with her uncle who was looking after the dogs at the residence of a woman who was away.
‘Her uncle went to buy bread at the store for his niece who was still asleep. She woke up and went outside to check on her uncle before the dogs dashed on her. Suddenly, I heard people screaming and I went to find out. The gate was locked and people had parked their cars to save the screaming girl. They struggled to open the gate. That’s when I saw four dogs biting the little girl. We succeeded in forcing open the gate’. A neighbor explained.
Though the locals succeeded in opening the gate as recounted, there was no chance to save the little Cynthia.
‘We managed to get in and save the child but she already went unconscious. We rushed her to the Mbanga district hospital where her condition was above the hea
lth team who evacuated her to the Douala Laquintinie hospital. Unfortunately, the little girl died on the way around Souza. The neighbor added.
Three of the dogs were killed on the spot.
Shockingly, the locals received threats from a woman, to reproduce her dogs.
‘Owner of the dogs, a woman threatened us in a voice note and said they can give birth to another child but not her dogs. She stated clearly that the girl’s life is not more important than her dogs.’ A local disclosed.
Cynthia’s remains were deposited in the morgue pending burial.
