Accra: The African Union’s 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, bringing together Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and member states, commenced on July 18, 2024, with the 45th Session of the Executive Council.
The two-day ministerial meeting, set to discuss a range of issues, saw the attendance of Mr. Timothy Musa Kabba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as a guest speaker.
The agenda included budget considerations for 2025, discussions on the continent’s security status and peace financing mechanisms, progress on the African Union’s 2024 theme on Education, and reports on African candidatures within the international system.
Additionally, the ministers deliberated on the theme for 2025, focusing on ‘Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations.
H.E. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Chair of the Executive Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania, emphasized the need for collective efforts to realize Africa’s ambitious
goals under the Agenda 2063 framework.
The meeting also addressed budgetary concerns, with H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, highlighting the challenges posed by a reduced budget for 2025.
Minister Timothy Musa Kabba’s participation as a guest speaker underscored the importance of collaboration and shared commitment among African nations to address these pressing issues and advance the continent’s political and socio-economic development.
