The occasion of China’s 75th National Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation implored China to sustain its advocacy for reforming the United Nations Security Council, particularly to augment Africa’s permanent representation.

Acting Foreign Minister Frances Piagie Alghali addressed attendees, highlighting global challenges such as climate change, economic disparities, environmental concerns, and international tensions. She emphasized that addressing these issues necessitates collaboration between the two nations.

Alghali underscored the shared commitment to green development, innovation, and multilateralism. She expressed aspirations for a more just and inclusive society that fosters prosperity for both countries.

Alghali lauded China’s remarkable transformation over the past decades, from an agrarian society to a global economic power. She attributed this progress to the country’s hard work, innovation, and resilience.

She acknowledged China’s significant contributions to inn
ovation, sustainability, and cultural exchange. She hailed China as a leader in these areas, connecting it deeply with the global community.

Alghali commended China’s commitment to multilateralism and dialogue, particularly in addressing global challenges such as climate change, public health, and regional security. She emphasized China’s efforts to strengthen international relationships based on mutual respect.

Alghali highlighted the profound ties of friendship and solidarity between Sierra Leone and China, anchored in mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. She expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support, including major infrastructure projects, scholarships, and medical assistance.

She specifically recognized the role of the newly constructed Foreign Service Academy in equipping Sierra Leonean diplomats with essential knowledge and skills. Alghali emphasized the critical role of diplomacy in navigating complex global issues.

Alghali referred to President Julius Maada Bio’s recent state visit to
China and his attendance at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). She expressed appreciation for China’s commitment to solidarity and cooperation with African countries through FOCAC.

Alghali reiterated the shared commitment to green development, innovation, and multilateralism. She expressed optimism for a brighter future built on these principles.

Alghali concluded by conveying heartfelt congratulations and wishes for continued peace, prosperity, and success for the Chinese government and people.

His Excellency Ambassador Wang Qing, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, spoke alongside Minister Alghali. He emphasized the bilateral relationship between China and Sierra Leone as a successful example of cooperation, with significant achievements over the past years and various collaborative efforts, including cultural exchanges and support in health and agriculture.

The Ambassador highlighted China’s role in global governance and its initiatives aimed at fostering international
cooperation and development. He noted that the strong bilateral relationship with Sierra Leone serves as a model for China’s foreign policy, emphasizing mutual respect and collaboration.

He expressed optimism for the future, advocating for continued partnership and shared goals between the nations.

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh remarked on the deep and historic relationship between Sierra Leone and China, which is founded on mutual support.

He reiterated the desire for China’s continued support in reforming the UN Security Council to guarantee Africa’s representation, particularly in permanent membership.

The Vice President concluded that the commitment to enhancing bilateral relations suggests a strategic partnership that both nations are keen to develop further.
