The City of Cape Town has launched its Let’s ACT at Home exhibition at the Building Centre, Northgate Estate. The exhibition showcases what can be done to ensure residential and commercial building and renovation projects are resource efficient in design and operation. The City is asking residents and built professionals, businesses and organisations to join the movement for a more sustainable, resilient and future-fit Cape Town for all.
Visitors to the exhibition will gain information on clean energy options, energy efficiency measures as well as efficient design and operation of buildings. The exhibition highlights the importance of energy efficiency and promotes a collaborative drive between residents, industry and the City toward achieving net zero carbon. The City is aiming to be carbon neutral and climate resilient by 2050 and has committed that all new buildings in Cape Town will be net zero carbon by 2030.
‘In light of the City’s commitment to accelerating transformative climate action by delivering highly energy efficient buildings running on renewable energy for all new buildings, and all municipal buildings, by 2030, and by 2050 for all existing buildings and citywide carbon neutrality, it is critical that all residents, businesses, communities and organisations join us in taking action to reduce our resource consumption and support positive climate change action.
‘The exhibit forms part of the City’s climate change response and resilience campaign, Let’s ACT. For a Stronger Cape Town, which aims to encourage residents, communities, businesses and organisations to take urgent climate action. The public exhibition showcases what can be done for residential and commercial building and renovation projects. We call on Cape Town’s residents and businesses to take action towards improving household resource and energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy sources and improving our resilience to climate change impacts.
‘We invite the public to walk the journey toward carbon neutrality with us by visiting the exhibit to learn and implement the small actions we can all take in our homes, neighbourhoods and at work,’ said Councillor Beverley van Reenen, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, who presided over the opening of the exhibition.
The Building Centre is a permanent exhibition centre, which is open daily to the public and hosts more than 200 exhibits which showcases information, materials and technologies for home-owners, designers, architects and other industry professionals for residential and commercial buildings and renovation projects.
