Senwabarwana: Flying Squad together with Senwabarwana Detectives nabbed two male suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members of Provincial Flying Squad together with Senwabarwana Detectives executed a joint operation focusing on tracking and tracing suspects who allegedly committed robberies at Senwabarwana policing area on Thursday, 23 January 2025.
According to South African Police Service, one male suspect was located and arrested while in possession of two rifle ammunition and one cellphone stolen during a house robbery incident committed last year in April 2024. The suspect was immediately arrested for a charge of house robbery and illegal possession of ammunition.
While busy with the operation, police spotted a blue VW Polo motor vehicle reported to be terrorizing the local community with robberies. Police attempted to stop the motor vehicle, but it unexpectedly sped off, leading to a car chase. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a fence. Two males vacated the vehicle and ran on foot while police pursued them. However, the police managed to apprehend a 23-year-old driver who was taken back to his motor vehicle.
Following the search of the vehicle, the police found one magazine and immediately proceeded to the suspect’s residence. An unlicensed firearm was found concealed inside the refrigerator upon their arrival. A 23-year-old male suspect was also placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm, reckless and negligent driving, malicious damage to property, and resisting arrest.
The duo will appear before Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on 27 January 2025, and police investigations are continuing.
