DURBAN – On 21 May 2022 at 15:45, a joint operation was conducted after a report of a robbery that took place in Richmond was received.
It was reported that the suspects who were involved in the robbery were travelling in a vehicle and they were heading towards Pietermaritzburg along R56 Road. All main exit routes in the area were blocked. The vehicle was spotted travelling on the R603 towards the N3 freeway and a chase ensued. The suspect’s vehicle was stopped at the bottom of Key Ridge.
Three suspects were arrested and were found in possession of firearms as well as five rounds of ammunition and a pellet gun. They were also found in possession of four cellphones and property, suspected to have been stolen during the robbery. The suspects will be profiled to establish if they are linked to other serious and violent cases. Police seized the vehicle used by the suspects for further investigation.
It is alleged that four armed men entered a business premises situated on Chilley Street in Richmond and held up the employees. At gunpoint, they stole cash from the cash register, two speakers and cellphones before fleeing the scene. The suspects aged 25 and 26 are expected to appear before the Hammersdale Magistrate’s Court this morning on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as robbery.
