GQEBERHA – The South African Police Service in Swartkops have opened an inquest following the tragic drowning of a 5-year-old boy on Saturday, 14 May 2022.

It is alleged that between16:40 and 17:24 Ayanda Peter was playing with a ball in their yard in Yale Road in Bluewater Bay, Gqeberha. At about 17:24, his 11-year-old sister noticed him lying at the bottom of the pool and dived in to save him. He was already dead. It is further alleged that the child may have went into the pool to fetch his ball when he drowned.

Police investigations are continuing.
