Swift response by police to information on alleged scamming activities landed five suspects behind bars after speed point machines were found in their possession on the N2 Highway at Swellendam. They are expected to appear in the Swellendam Magistrates’ court on Monday, 18 October 2021.

 

On Friday, 15 October 2021 at about 20:20 members attached the Swellendam police acted on information about a Toyota motor vehicle which was traveling along the N2. They operationalised the information and stopped vehicle at the weighbridge. A search of the vehicle ensued when police found three speed point machines inside. The three occupants were unable to account for their possession thereof. The trio was subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

 

Later the same night, Swellendam Crime Prevention Unit members also responded to information about illicit activities involving a white Suzuki motor vehicle which was enroute from Heidelberg. The members spotted the vehicle on the N2 highway where they brought it to a halt. They proceeded with a search and found a speed point machine on the back seat. Both occupants were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

 

The five suspects, one woman, aged between 29 and 53 remains in custody.

 

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are all from the Cape Metropole. Their possible involvement in suspected scamming activities is also being investigated.
