Five suspects arrested for unlicensed firearm and business robbery

MSOBOMVU – An Intelligence driven operation by Butterworth Crime Intelligence, Msobomvu police and Butterworth OCC led to the swift arrest of five (05) suspects aged between 25 and 42. They were arrested this morning, Wednesday, 02 March 2022 at about 10:00 at a house in Msobomvu Township, Butterworth.

Police followed up on information about suspects that were allegedly involved in a Business Robbery in Centane in the early hours of this morning. Thorough investigation led the police to a house in Msobomvu Township. On arrival they found the suspects with suspected stolen property namely: tobacco, liquor and an undisclosed amount of money. At the house police also seized an unlicensed firearm with four rounds of ammunition.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was not used in the commission of crime around Butterworth and the surrounding towns.

The suspects will appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 03 March 2022.

The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu commended the members for their swift response that resulted in the arrest.
