Today, 15 February 2023, City officials handed over 16 title deeds to beneficiaries of its Atlantis Kanonkop Phase 1 housing project. This title deed handover is a testament to the City’s ongoing commitment to redress, security of tenure and economic opportunities.
This morning, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi and officials in the Human Settlements Department handed over 16 title deeds to Kanonkop Phase 1 beneficiaries, who are now first time property owners.
'We are happy to celebrate with the residents of Atlantis this morning as they become first time property owners. A title deed is so much more than just a piece of paper, but it is a stepping-stone for vulnerable residents who now have access to economic and entrepreneurial opportunities.
'Security of tenure is a City priority and we will continue providing title deeds and thus empowering many more qualifying residents. Our title deeds programme is ongoing and we have been handing over title deeds to the residents of Khayelitsha, Belhar, Delft and Morningstar among others.
'The City also has a number of affordable housing projects in Atlantis, which includes Kanonkop Phase 1. Kanonkop Phase 1 was completed in 2021 and provides more than 450 opportunities to residents and their families.
'Our teams look forward to continuing with our title deeds programme this year, which will assist many more residents in all areas of the metro,' said Councillor Booi.
