Firearms taken off Western Cape streets

The determination by members of the Kirstenhof Crime Prevention Unit to protect their communities from gang activities led to the arrest of a 23-year-old male on Friday afternoon when he was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Station Road, Retreat. The members were busy with stop and search operations when the suspect was caught with a pistol.

He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday.

In an unrelated matter members of Operation Restore were busy with crime prevention duties in Steve Biko Street, Harare, Khayelitsha on Thursday evening, when they noticed a white Chevrolet standing next to the road with two occupants in the vehicle. They approached the vehicle and the occupants jumped out of the vehicle and disappeared between the shacks. The members searched the vehicle and found a pistol in the vehicle. It was later established that the vehicle was hijacked earlier the evening. An enquiry into the matter was opened for investigation.
