Fezile Dabi District Under The Tree Dialogue

Frankfort: Free State SAPS Provincial Crime Prevention descended together with sister departments on Namahadi, Frankfort on Tuesday 30 November 2021 to deliver an “Under the Tree dialogue.” The program was conducted in line with 16 Days Activism for no violence against women and children campaign which is a National Annual Calender event.

 

It was facilitated by Capt Frans Sekwati. The activities took place through commissions. About 100 men were divided into four groups with each looking into four different topics:-

 

  1. The role played by culture in our personality, beliefs and values.

 

  1. Cultural factors influencing my personality.

 

  1. Confronting stereotypes and myths.

 

  1. How to deal with past traumatic experiences and influences.

 

These topics enabled all men to participate and dealt and confronted the views and myths that entrenches Gender Based Violence and Femicide. They also dealt with bias in view of GBVF and the myths associated with both religious and cultural precepts and perceptions on the role of men in society. How those precepts enhances patriarchy and oppress women.

 

The stakeholders that were present included Community Police Forum (CPF), Fezile Dabi District Spiritual Crime Prevention, Mafube, Cornelia and District SAPS, Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJ and CD), Legal aid board and Nederduitse Gereformeerde (NG) Kerk, Namahadi as the host.

 

Capt Sekwati and representatives from sister departments will be at Tweeling and other stations in Free State talking about domestic violence as well GBVF during the 16 Days Campaign to curb the scourge of these social problems.
