The driver of a government police double cab involved in a fatal accident on Wednesday allegedly lost control of the vehicle after the right rear tyre ruptured.
The accident involving the government vehicle occurred around 09h00 just outside Otavi on the B1 road in the Otjozondjupa Region.
In a report released to Nampa on Wednesday, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi stated that the vehicle left the road and rolled multiple times before coming to a stop.
There were four persons in the vehicle at the time of the accident, including the driver.
“It is alleged that the NamPol members attached to the VVIP directorate and allocated to former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, were driving from Tsumeb facing the Otavi direction,” she said.
Two police officers died at the scene and the two injured in the vehicle were taken to Otjiwarongo State Hospital for medical treatment, reportedly in a serious condition.
Investigations into the matter continue.
