Otjiwarongo, Namibia - A tragic accident on the B1 road between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja claimed the life of a 53-year-old man on Monday. Inspector Maureen Mbeha, head of community affairs for the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, confirmed the incident, noting that the victim's relatives had not yet been informed.
According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA),The accident occurred around 13:00 on Monday, approximately 40 kilometers south of Otjiwarongo. It is alleged that the 43-year-old female driver of a Volkswagen Jetta, traveling from Windhoek to northern Namibia, lost control of the vehicle while trying to place a bottle of water down inside the car. According to Inspector Mbeha, the vehicle veered off the road to the right and overturned multiple times.
The deceased, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected and subsequently crushed by the vehicle. There were five occupants in the car, including the driver. The other four sustained moderate to serious injuries and were treated at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital. Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
