Excellent power of observation by Major General and Constable leads to the arrest of a suspected blue light robber

PARKTOWN – Excellent power of observation by a police Major General and a Constable led to the arrest of a suspected blue light robber who had a fake police appointment certificate (identity card). The suspect is expected to appear before Krugersdorp Magistrates Court, facing a charge of impersonating a police officer and possession of blue light without authority.

West Rand District Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, observed an illegal activity as he was driving with a police constable on Thursday, 13 October 2022. While on R28 in Krugersdorp, at approximately 18:35, they noticed a suspicious unmarked VW Polo fitted with blue lights. The duo immediately stopped the car, the driver who was questioned alleged that he was a police officer and produced what looked like a police identity card. Upon further questioning by the Major General, it became clear that the man is not a police officer and he did not have authority to drive a car fitted with blue lights. The suspect was found in possession of a bulletproof vest written by police and a licensed firearm.
