Brussels: South Africa and the European Union (EU) have initiated their first government-to-government dialogue aimed at implementing the Clean Trade and Investment Partnership (CTIP). This strategic cooperation is designed to drive the green transition through a focus on three core pillars. According to European Union, the cooperation will materialize trade and investment in several key areas, including the expansion of South Africa's electricity grid, renewable energy initiatives, and the development of green hydrogen projects. The CTIP aims to enhance the business environment by improving transparency and predictability through regulatory updates for industry stakeholders. Additionally, the agreement seeks to deepen cooperation on climate and energy standards, promoting regulatory alignment between the EU and South Africa. As South Africa's largest investment partner, the EU has committed to supporting the country in constructing 14,500 kilometers of new power lines over the next decade. The CTIP serves as a significant external instrument of the Clean Industrial Deal, demonstrating that climate action and economic competitiveness can effectively coexist.
