On the same day, officers attended to a complaint from the control room of a person driving recklessly on the R300 between Hindle Road and the N2. Officers stopped the vehicle and requested the driver who reeked of alcohol to step out of the vehicle. Law Enforcement

Officers conducted 491 operations, during which they arrested 84 suspects and issued 4 924 fines. Law Enforcement Advancement Plan officers (LEAP) accounted for 72 of the total amount of arrests. LEAP officers also issued 302 fines.

In addition, officers issued 469 fines for not wearing masks. The City’s Law Enforcement officers have been strictly enforcing the mandatory requirement for people to wear masks when out in public places. The fine is R1000 but officers are still  seeing people who are not adhering to the National Disaster Management Act to wear a mask.

The requirement to wear a mask in public is still the law and officers will continue to vigorously enforce these regulations.

The City’s Law Enforcement supports SAPS in enforcing the national Disaster Management Act.

‘Our daily patrols on the City’s roads and enforcement operations in hotspot areas and communities pays off with successful arrests every week. The fines for By-law, road and vehicle safety transgressions and residents not adhering to the National Disaster Management Act shows that officers are effective in crime prevention and that their presence in communities and on the road is a definite crime deterrent. Our enforcement departments will continue to work closely with Neighbourhood Watches, SAPS and other crime prevention agencies to get criminals off the streets and out of the communities,’ said the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
