Western Cape Unemployment Insurance Fund invites employers to an advocacy session

The Western Cape Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), an entity of the Department of Employment and Labour, is inviting employers in Paarl and surrounding areas, to attend an advocacy session which will look at various aspects pertaining the UIF processes.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund was established to provide short term financial relief to workers, subject to certain conditions. The benefits offered by the UIF include Unemployment (Reduced Work Time), Illness, Maternity, Adoption, Dependants and Parental benefits.

With the recent amendments effected to the legislation governing the UIF, and newly introduced digital processes, the Fund will use the session to assist and educate employers on the following online systems:

  • Ufiling
  • Covid-19 TERS including appeals process
  • Electronic Declaration – Payroll declarations / Digital UI.19
  • UIF bulk and requirements overview and;
  • UIF compliance

Western Cape head of UIF Operations, Siphokazi Qasana said, the advocacy session is one of the measures and efforts by the Department to ensure that employers are well informed and educated on all changes and new requirements to ensure full compliance with the Fund.

“It’s our duty to bring all employers on board pertaining all our processes if we want to see positive results when it comes to employers registering with the Fund, declaring employees on time and paying the necessary contributions as mandated by law.

However, we have to take employers by hand and provide the necessary guidance and understanding. The session will also open a platform to assist employers on the spot by attending to queries and challenges they face when interacting with our systems,” said Qasana.
