Following the release of the draft National Labour Migration Policy (NLMP) and the Employment Service Bill, the Department of Employment and Labour’s Public Employment Services (PES) branch in partnership with the Employment Services (ES) will be consulting with stakeholders on a series of public hearings to petition public inputs from stakeholders across all nine provinces.
The draft NLMP and Employment Service Bill were published on the 28 February 2022 for public comments, the public has since been given 90 days to submit written submissions or input from the date of publication.
Therefore, to permit the public an equal opportunity to have their voices and opinions heard, the Public Employment Services (PES) team will be in the Free State on 26 and 30 May 2022.
The NLMP has been designed to achieve the following:
- Key stakeholders to be well informed and in support of the policy;
- Receive public comments to strengthen and improve the policy
- Social partners and constituents to be committed, supportive and involved in the policy development process;
- A strengthened Labour Migration Assessment and draft National Labour Migration Policy ready for implementation;
- Improved capacity for policy formulation and implementation on labour migration within the Department.
The intention of the consultation process is to also conduct advocacy sessions on the draft of Employment Services Amendment Bill and National Labour Migration Policy, in order to ensure that the public is adequately consulted and to allow the Employment Services Board to satisfactorily advise the Minister.
These public hearings will be held as follows:
- 26 May 2022: Bon Hotel Bloemfontein @ 09h00 -12h00
- 30 May 2022: Bethlehem Municipality Town Hall @ 09h00 -12h00
