DURBAN – Recently police at Mtubatuba noticed an increase in business robberies being committed by a group of armed suspects. The suspects were targeting businesses and they would rob the staff at gunpoint before fleeing the scene without harming anyone.
On 07 January and 08 January 2021, an operation was put in place by police officers from the Empangeni Tactical Response Team. Their operation yielded positive results as 11 suspects were arrested at different homesteads in Mtubatuba. Two of the arrested suspects were found in illegal possession firearms and 11 rounds of ammunition.
The arrested suspects were positively linked to a string of business robberies committed in Mtubatuba since November last year and January this year. More arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. The suspects aged between 18 and 35 are expected to appear before the Mtubatuba Magistrates Court this morning.
