Candidates contesting Municipal By-Elections on 8 February 2023
Two municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Northern Cape and the Western Cape provinces on Wednesday, 8 February 2023.
The by-elections will be contested by ten (10) candidates from nine (9) political parties.
In the Northern Cape:
• Ward 6 in Dikgatlong Municipality– NC092 will be contested by three (3) candidates, namely, Richard Tshepo Springbok of the African National Congress (ANC), Caroline Kaars of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Barbara Elaine Botes of the Patriotic Alliance (PA).
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and the ward seat became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 54.56% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 44.19% of valid votes.
In the Western Cape:
• Ward 56 in the City of Cape Town Municipality – CPT will be contested by seven (7) candidates, namely, Mark Anthony Arendse of the African Restoration Alliance (ARA), Deidrée Carol De Vos of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Mogammat Magodien Samodien of the Al Jama-Ah, Cameron Kendall Peters of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Kevin William Inglis from the GOOD party, Shaheema Langeveldt from Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) and Cheslyn Jerome Steenberg from the PA.
The ward was previously represented by the DA and the ward seat became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation.
The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 47.13% and the DA candidate won the ward with 44.50% of valid votes.
