Ekurhuleni: The South African Police Service (SAPS) has vowed to apprehend those responsible for the murders of women in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, as the body of a sixth woman was discovered in the area. This follows the earlier discovery of the bodies of four women over a period of approximately two months.

According to South African Government News Agency, two more bodies were discovered in different areas of Ekurhuleni on Monday and Tuesday. In a media briefing on Monday evening, Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, warned the perpetrators that police are on their trail and that their 'freedom is temporary'. Mosikili emphasized the capabilities of SAPS and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) in tracking down those responsible.

More police officers have been deployed to the area to increase patrols, enhance visibility, and intensify investigations. Lieutenant General Mosikili assured that both SAPS and EMPD are in control of the situation, acknowledging the fear and anxiety these cases have created among the local community. She stated that additional resources have been brought in to strengthen their efforts in Ekurhuleni.

From July to date, the authorities are dealing with five cases involving the discovery of women's bodies in the area. One suspect has already been arrested and linked to the murder in the first case. SAPS has held a high-level operational meeting with the investigating team to assess the progress of investigations and pursue leads.

In a statement on Monday afternoon, SAPS Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, assured South Africans of the police's commitment to protecting women and bringing perpetrators to justice. She expressed condolences to the family of Elizabeth 'Tsontso' Moselakgomo, one of the victims, and assured that SAPS will work tirelessly to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.

A multidisciplinary team comprising detectives and other specialized policing resources has been deployed to intensify the investigation. So far, one suspect has been arrested in connection with the discovery of the first body in July and remains in custody.
