Eeshoke Chula Chula Triumphs in Dr Hage Geingob Cup Championship

OLYMPIA – Eeshoke Chula Chula emerged victorious in the ninth edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup, held at Independence Stadium in Olympia, defeating African Stars 1-0 on Saturday. This win marks a significant achievement for the Ohangwena Region-based Namibian Premier Football League (NPFL) team.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the one-day football event featured various teams, including those from the NPFL, the Women’s Super League, and an exhibition match between Namibian and South African legends. In the early games, Galz and Goals Football Club secured a 1-0 victory against FC Ongos, the reigning champions of the Women’s Super League, with Fiola Fliete scoring the decisive goal in the first half.

The legends’ match between teams from Namibia and South Africa concluded in a 1-1 draw, followed by a penalty shootout, which the South African team won 5-4. The highlight of the day was the main match, where Eeshoke Chula Chula faced African Stars. Moses Shidolo scored the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute, capitalizing on a rebound off the right post.

The second half saw Chula Chula’s goalkeeper, Nason Ngoma, making a crucial save against Willy Stephanus, the league’s top goal scorer, preserving their lead. Ngoma’s impressive performance was a key factor in Chula Chula’s successful defense against African Stars.

The match concluded with Eeshoke Chula Chula securing their first major trophy of 2023, amidst the cheers of over 20,000 spectators at Independence Stadium. For their victory in the Dr Hage Geingob Cup, Eeshoke Chula Chula was awarded N.dollars 250,000, a trophy, and gold medals. African Stars, as runners-up, received N.dollars 100,000 and silver medals.

In the Women’s Super League curtain-raiser match, Galz and Goals’ win against FC Ongos earned them N.dollars 100,000, while FC Ongos received N.dollars 50,000.
