Economic Infrastructure Task Team seize copper and aluminium cable

WESTERN CAPE – The members of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team conducted compliance inspections at scrapyards in Lwandle, Strand on Monday, 07 November 2022. This led to the discovery of underground copper and aluminium cables in a locked container in one of the scrapyards. When the owner of the establishment could not produce documentation, he was arrested and detained at Strand SAPS. A roll of copper and aluminium weighing 54kg and another one weighing 89kg was confiscated. The City of Cape Town identified the underground cables as theirs. The 65-year-old male suspect will appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court, once he has been charged.

The team continued with the inspections and issued admission of guilt fines to two illegal scrapyards in the area for not being compliant with the Second Hand Goods Act Section 25.
