Duo charged for alleged dealing in drugs

 

FICKSBURG – The Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team successfully arrested two suspects for allegedly dealing in drugs in Ficksburg during an intelligence driven operation.

 

On Monday, 06 December 2021, the Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team proceeded to Ficksburg for crime combating duties. While performing duties in the area, members kept observation on movements at a certain house in Meqheleng Township. The team requested back up from local police to search the house that resulted in the apprehension of a suspect, aged 22, who attempted to evade arrest by escaping through the window. The police found 75 Mandrax tablets and cash. The suspect was arrested.

 

The same team approached a suspicious black Honda Fit sedan with in the streets of Meqheleng. The members stopped the driver to conduct a search of the vehicle and found one full Mandrax tablet and six half tablets including six crystal myth sachets and cash. The suspect, aged 34 was arrested and detained.

 

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 08 December 2021, facing charges of dealing in drugs.

 

‘I want to applaud the members of the community who put their faith and trust in our members as we act upon their outcry to fight crime within society. Drug trafficking is a serious crime that has serious effects on the youth especially as they become addicts and commit other crimes. I extend my appreciation to the police members for acting swiftly and for fighting the drug scourge, said the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane.
