Drug dealer slammed with R10 000 fine

WESTERN CAPE - Ugochuwu Nwonkwo (55) was sentenced by the Hermanus Magistrate Court yesterday, 30 March 2022 after he entered into a plea agreement with the State for contravening the Drug and Drug Trafficking Act.

Nwonkwo was ordered to pay R10 000-00 into the Criminal Asset Recovery Account (CARA), he additionally received a twelve months imprisonment. This comes after Nwonkwo was arrested in Hermanus, Coastal mall on 03 March 2021 during a sting operation executed by a multidisciplinary team.

The joint team included the Western Cape Hawks’ South African Narcotic Enforcement Bureau team (SANEB) together with Crime Intelligence Overberg.

Authorities acted on information received about a man selling drugs, he was found with two grams of cocaine on his possession at the time.

The court has however wholly suspended the sentence for three years on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence in the future.
